Now that the Vickers Thorneycroft shipyard has closed and been raised to the ground, the east bank of the Solent below the Itchen Bridge is slowly being regenerated and will undoubtedly become a very desirable area over the next few years.
One of the few industrial remains still operational in the area is the long oil pier on Weston Point. This is open to the public almost as far as the actual pier head, and is well worth seeking out if you are in the area.
