Sandwiched between the looming towers of Fawley Refinery and the imposing bulk of Fawley power station, Ashlett Creek is an oasis of rural charm that, just about, manages to ignore both its neighbours.
Southampton Water from Ashlett Creek
The place consists of little more than the Sailing Club (housed in an old Tide Mill) and the, deservedly popular, Jolly Sailor pub (good food, good beer and lots of picnic benches out the front overlooking the busy Southampton Water).
There is a pleasant there and back walk to be had, south from here along the shore behind the power station.
Alternatively you could walk back via the road but, for me, the lure of staying by the waterʼs edge is too much.
