Once one of the busiest ports along this stretch of coast with links across the North Sea to Flanders and beyond, Cley Next The Sea ceased to be a port in the nineteenth century when a failed land reclamation scheme led to the silting up of the port.

It is now famous, if that's the right word, mainly for its Mill and its pottery, Made in Cley (a pun somewhat ruined by the fact that Cley is pronounced to rhyme with spy).

Less well known is it Smokehouse, home to the traditional Norfolk Bloater, and very good they are too.

Like its counterpart Wells-Next-the-Sea, Cley is a mile or so away from the sea.

There is a small car park at the end of Beach Road giving access to the high shingle bank that stretches out to the end of Blakeney Point nearly 5.5km (nearly 4 miles) away to the west.

There used to be a cafe here but it closed due to the storms and flooding. A very bleak spot.
