A brief history of the Forest.
Christianity came late to the New Forest and there are many tiny churches and chapels dating from the eighteenth century or later. Even the larger older churches have, in many cases, been extensively enlarged in this period.
Scattered throughout the forest are a various memorials relating to events of the first half of the last century when the New Forest played a major part in both World Wars.
There are quite a few tourist attractions in and around the New Forest, mostly on the Southampton side.
Here you will find details of the other little oddities scattered across the forest that don't fit anywhere else.
