The original oak cross at Rawlsbury was erected by the Rev J.L. Baillie (vicar of Milborne St Andrew and secretary of the Mid-Dorset Common Life Plan) with helpers in 1966, in readiness for the first Open-Air Evensong service where 3000 souls congregated in torrential rain on the evening of 31st July 1966.

Many Thanks.

Anthony Houghton
